Seminar on Green solutions for a sustainable Arctic held in Shanghai

On October 18, 2018, to welcome King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway to visit China,Shanghai Institutes for International Studies co-hosted the seminar on “Green solutions for a sustainable Arctic” with the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai, and Polar Research Institute of China. Ine Eriksen Søreide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Bjørn Midthun, Director of Section for the High North, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign affairs, Yang Jian, Professor and Vice president of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and Kjell Stokvik, Managing Director Centre for High North Logistics (CHNL), Nord University delivered keynote speeches. The speakers shared their insights on how technology and connectivity can enhance resilience in arctic communities and promote a green economy, how to balance sustainable use with prudent conservation in the Arctic, and how to ensure sustainable and safe sailing etc.

The researchers from Center for Maritime and Polar Studies, Institute for Global Governance Studies and staff from department of research management and international exchanges, graduate students participated in the seminar.
