December 12, the Institute for Global Governance Studies, SIIS, held a seminar of “China’s Energy Security in the Context of Global Governance.” More than 20 experts on energy security from China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, National Institute for South China Sea Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Fudan University, and Yunnan University, government officials, and journalists talked about China’s energy security, overseas energy cooperation, carbon tax, and the Copenhagen climate conference. The issues of the seminar included “China’s Energy Security and Global Energy Cooperation at a New Stage,” “Geopolitical Challenge to Energy Diplomacy,” and “The Trend of Interaction between Energy Security and Global Issues.” The participants believed that energy security as part of the non-traditional security had become an important issue of international cooperation and global governance, and global issues such as climate change should be taken into account in the study of energy security.
