March 14, SIIS hosted a seminar of “The Assessment of Copenhagen Meeting and the Development of Chinese Carbon Diplomacy” as the seminar for the important project of national social science foundation “System Reform and Norms Reconstruction: Policy Study of Chinese Involvement in Global Problems” hosted by President Yang Jiemian. Yu Qingtai, Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ special representative on Climate Change Negotiations ambassador, He Jiankun, Deputy Director of National Experts Commission on Climate Change, Pan Jiahua, Director of Urban and Environment, China Academy of Social Sciences, and Chao Qingchen, Deputy Director of Science, Technology & Climate Change, China Meteorological Administration attended the seminar.
The seminar focused on the Copenhagen Agreement, and China’s Carbon diplomatic strategy in the post-Copenhagen era. Experts at the seminar praised the periodical positive achievements at the Copenhagen conference. They also reminded that we ought to realize that climate negotiations in the post-Copenhagen era would be long-term, uncertain, and complex. They also provided positive proposals on China’s responsive strategy.
